The still cultivated in Scandinavian countries tradition of wooden shipbuilding has been in 2021 awarded the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage status. This unique common Baltic Sea heritage deserves to be revived and popularized also in other places on the South Baltic coast, where there is demand for innovative and sustainable out-of-season tourist attractions, and there is already a good infrastructure base such as municipal marinas and maritime museums.
BOATMAN: creating a South Baltic network of sustainable-tourism hubs connected to the maritime heritage theme is an initiative of people passionate about maritime heritage: sailors, historians, operators of heritage ships, local municipalities and tourism professionals. Our vision is a network of sustainable-tourism centres (hubs) for recreational boatbuilding, events and other activities around the heritage wooden ships. Together we will create a unique, sustainable & cultural touristic offer, which will attract visitors to some of the less frequented places the South Baltic Area all-year-round.
